Jann Wenner's Controversial Remarks Spark Backlash and Oust Him from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Board
Living Colour, the pioneering 1980s band, criticized Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner for his new book, The Masters, which excludes women and Black artists. Wenner's comments in a New York Times interview, where he claimed that African American and female artists were not "articulate" enough, sparked controversy. Wenner was subsequently removed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation's Board of Directors and issued an apology. However, Living Colour argued that the apology did not temper the original comments and criticized the book's lack of diverse voices, calling it "sexist gatekeeping and exclusionary behavior."
