A Michigan man, who became a viral meme for driving during a virtual court hearing for driving on a suspended license, had actually had his license reinstated two years ago, but the Michigan Secretary of State never received the court order.
The suspect in the deadly crash that killed five young women in Minneapolis had rented the car less than 30 minutes before the collision, according to a search warrant. The suspect, Derrick John Thompson, had a revoked driver's license in 2018 and was issued a valid license less than two weeks before the crash. Thompson's driving record includes selling and possessing a controlled substance while driving, fleeing a peace officer, and driving after revocation. Thompson met the qualifications to rent a vehicle from Hertz, and a bag containing suspected marijuana was found inside the car. Prosecutors have yet to file formal charges in the case.
