Florida Teacher Fired for Having Students Write Their Own Obituaries Before Active Shooter Drill
A psychology teacher in Florida was fired after giving an assignment to his high school students to write their own obituaries as part of a lesson plan on school shootings. The teacher, Jeffrey Keene, said the lesson was meant to encourage students to share their perceptions on gun violence in schools and to find positive solutions. However, several students complained to their counselors, and Keene was fired for giving an "inappropriate assignment about school violence." Keene plans to appeal his termination.
