Lindsey Vonn credits surgeon for saving her leg after Olympic crash
Lindsey Vonn says her surgeon saved her leg from amputation after a severe crash at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. She suffered multiple fractures, a torn ACL and a broken ankle, and developed compartment syndrome, which required a six-hour fasciotomy. After two weeks in hospital, she’s been moved to a hotel and faces a lengthy recovery—bone healing could take about a year before ACL reconstruction—yet she remains determined, thanking surgeon Dr. Tom Hackett for saving her leg.
