Storm Warning Lifted for Genesee and Lapeer Counties

The severe thunderstorm warning for Genesee and Lapeer counties has expired, but the 4Warn Weather team expects the strongest storms to arrive after midnight, bringing strong winds, flooding, and hail. The National Weather Service reported severe thunderstorms moving southeast with potential wind gusts of 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Locations impacted include Atlas, Goodland Township, Burnside, Attica, Elba, Thetford Township, Kings Mill, Silverwood, Genesee, and Thornville. Attendees of the Eastern Michigan State Fair are advised to seek safe shelter immediately.

Rash of Teen ATV/UTV Crashes Leaves Tragedy in its Wake

A 17-year-old North Branch teenager was killed and an 18-year-old Marlette teenager was seriously injured in a UTV crash in Lapeer County's North Branch. The UTV encountered another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and maneuvered to the right to avoid collision, causing the UTV to go off the road. The vehicle was able to return to the road, but never regained stability before it left the road a second time. The teens were not wearing seatbelts or helmets, and the seatbelt safety system on the UTV was bypassed. The crash remains under investigation.

Multiple Teenagers Killed in ATV and UTV Crashes.

A 17-year-old girl died and an 18-year-old girl was seriously injured in a UTV crash in rural Lapeer County, Michigan. The UTV went off the roadway and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest upright on the west side of the road. The two occupants were not wearing seat belts and neither were wearing helmets. The fatal traffic crash remains under investigation to determine if either excessive speed or alcohol were contributing factors.

Multiple Teenagers Killed or Injured in ATV and UTV Crashes

A 17-year-old girl died and an 18-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after a utility vehicle overturned in Lapeer County, Michigan. The driver lost control of the UTV when they encountered another vehicle traveling toward them on the northbound side. Both females were thrown out of the utility vehicle when it flipped. Police say Coulter landed in the road and she was pronounced dead on the scene. The sheriff's office says neither of the females was wearing a seat belt or helmet when they crashed.

Hazardous material semi overturns, closes parts of I-69.

All lanes of I-69 were reopened on Saturday afternoon after a semi truck carrying hazardous material overturned on westbound I-69 between M-24 and Lake Nepessing Road. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office requested additional support upon realizing the truck was hauling dangerous goods, but officials believe the hazardous material to be low in quantity and there is no danger to the public. The flammable solvent was stored in 15 55-gallon drums on the truck, which were not compromised during the crash.
