US Ports Face Shutdowns Amid Labor Dispute

Several thousand union members missed their shifts at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, leading to the closure of several container terminals. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union denied any job action and said workers were celebrating the Good Friday holiday. The Pacific Maritime Association accused the union of coordinating action to withhold labour and effectively shutting down the ports. The two groups have been in labour negotiations since May 2022, and the 22,000 dockworkers on the West Coast have been without a collective bargaining agreement since July 1.
