UC Workers Strike Over University Responses to Pro-Palestinian Protests

UCLA workers, including researchers and graduate student teaching assistants, walked off the job to protest the university's handling of Gaza demonstrations on campus. The University of California has deemed the strike illegal, citing politically motivated demands, but the state labor board has ordered formal mediation.

Gannett journalists strike against CEO.

Journalists for the largest newspaper chain in the US, Gannett, will go on strike next week to protest budget cuts and call for a no-confidence vote against CEO Mike Reed. Gannett merged with the GateHouse chain in 2019, leading to job cuts and leaner newsrooms. The company froze hundreds of positions and laid off 400 employees last summer, and in December laid off 6% of its roughly 3,400-person news staff.
