Former Kosovo President Thaci on Trial for War Crimes in The Hague
Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, along with three other former KLA leaders, has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague. The charges relate to crimes committed during the 1998 to 1999 armed conflict against Serbian forces, including persecution, imprisonment, torture, murder, and enforced disappearance of persons. Kosovo declared its independence in 2008, but Serbia has refused to recognise it. Thaci served as president from 2016, but resigned in 2020 following his indictment.
