The San Diego State Aztecs have been ranked No. 17 in the preseason Associated Press poll for college basketball, their highest opening ranking since 2016. Coach Brian Dutcher has been adamant about considering the Aztecs a power conference team regardless of their conference affiliation. However, the Kenpom.com computer metric ranks the Aztecs at No. 29 overall, projecting a 21-8 record for the upcoming season. Other Mountain West teams, such as New Mexico and Boise State, also received recognition in the rankings.
