Halla Tomasdottir Elected President of Iceland
Halla Tomasdottir, an entrepreneur and founder of Audur Capital, has been elected as Iceland's new president, defeating former Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir. Tomasdottir received 34% of the votes and will take over the largely ceremonial role from Gudni Johannesson on August 1. Iceland, known for its strong gender equality, has recently faced challenges from volcanic eruptions near Reykjavik.
