Kalakshetra Dance Professor Arrested for Sexual Harassment

Hari Padman, a Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher at the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, has been arrested on charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by one of his former students. Padman had been on the run since March 31 and was finally arrested on Monday. He has been sent to judicial custody till April 13. Padman had been a student at Kalakshetra since 1993 and had been teaching there since 2008.

Kalakshetra Dance Academy Professor Sent to Judicial Custody for Sexual Harassment Charges

Hari Padman, a senior dance teacher at Kalakshetra’s Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, has been sent to judicial custody till April 13 after being charged with sexual harassment and criminal intimidation based on a former student’s complaint. Hari is the only accused person against whom a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far. The Kalakshetra Foundation’s Governing Board has given verbal assurance to protesting students that the three other accused would be dismissed, and that Hari Padman would be suspended.
