The Boston Red Sox have reassigned catcher Jorge Alfaro to minor league camp and optioned infielder Bobby Dalbec, paving the way for catcher Connor Wong and infielder Yu Chang to make the club in reserve roles. Alfaro, who signed a minor league deal with the Sox in the offseason, will head to Triple-A Worcester to start the season. Meanwhile, Dalbec will move all around the infield for the WooSox, perhaps allowing him to return to the big leagues in a utility role somewhere down the line.

The Boston Red Sox have demoted infielder Bobby Dalbec and catcher Jorge Alfaro to Triple-A Worcester, with Yu Chang beating out Dalbec for the final infield spot and Connor Wong serving as the primary backup to starting catcher Reese McGuire. Chang, who can play all four infield positions, didn't appear in a spring training game with the Red Sox but was named Most Valuable Player of Pool A playing for Taiwan in the World Baseball Classic. Wong, who hit .400 in three games, hasn't appeared in a spring training game since March 2 because of a hamstring injury.
