Dodgers call up DeLuca as Thompson hits IL.
Jonny DeLuca, the Dodgers’ No. 20 prospect, was called up to the team after outfielder Trayce Thompson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain. DeLuca, who grew up near Dodger Stadium, was a quick riser through the Dodgers’ system and has shown impressive power. He will likely start in left or center field against left-handed pitching and provide some speed on the bases. Thompson will be out for at least a month, giving DeLuca a chance to fill the vacant spot, but the Dodgers could explore external options over the next few weeks.
