The Houston Astros have acquired right-hander Joel Kuhnel from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash considerations. Kuhnel was designated for assignment by the Reds before the trade. The Astros have transferred Lance McCullers Jr. to the 60-day injured list to make room for Kuhnel on the 40-man roster. Kuhnel has been optioned to Triple-A. He joins the Astros bullpen as depth and figures to act as a solid addition with a 3.78 xERA and a 3.52 xFIP in 2022.

The Cincinnati Reds have placed starting pitcher Graham Ashcraft on the 15-day injured list due to being struck by a comebacker in yesterday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Reds have called up right-handed reliever Ricky Karcher from Triple-A Louisville to join the bullpen. Karcher has struggled with control issues this season, walking 34 batters and giving up 23 earned runs in 22.1 innings. The Reds have also recently called up Andrew Abbott and Joel Kuhnel to fill out their roster.
