Leafs' historic playoff win overshadowed by remote broadcast mishap.
Joe Bowen, the long-time play-by-play voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs, made a mistake during the team's playoff series victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Bowen and colour voice Jim Ralph were calling the game from a studio in Toronto, approximately 2,200 kilometres from the ice surface, due to travel restrictions and cost-cutting measures. Bowen mistakenly believed that defenceman Morgan Rielly was the overtime hero, instead of captain John Tavares, due to a camera angle. The Leafs do not have a radio crew on site for playoff games, and it is unclear if Bowen and Ralph will be sent on the road for the second round of the playoffs.
