U.S. Rep. Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia announced he will not seek re-election and is leaving his congressional seat to his chief of staff, Patty Garcia, in a move that adds to the significant political shifts in Illinois ahead of the March 17 primary.
Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García and activist Jesse Jackson have endorsed Cook County commissioner Brandon Johnson for Chicago mayor. Johnson is facing off against former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas in the April 4 runoff. García, who also ran for mayor, announced his endorsement Friday morning along with several of his political allies on the Southwest Side. Jackson, a famed and longtime political activist, announced his endorsement later in the day. García’s support of Johnson comes as Johnson and Vallas hope to court Latino voters.
