Ohtani had previously announced their marriage on social media, describing Tanaka as a "normal Japanese woman." Tanaka, 27, played for the Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women’s Japan Basketball League from 2019 to 2023, and joined Ohtani at spring training this year. Ohtani stated that their relationship did not influence his decision to join the Dodgers, emphasizing that she has a great understanding of his profession.
