Georgia head coach Kirby Smart criticized Bulldogs defensive back Jake Pope for a viral video showing him celebrating with Ole Miss fans after Georgia's 28-10 loss to Ole Miss. Smart called Pope "an idiot" and noted that Pope is embarrassed by the incident. Pope, a former Alabama player and Buford High School graduate, did not play in the game. The video also featured a woman wearing the jersey of Ole Miss player Reece McIntyre, a fellow Buford alum.
