A new report from Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into the Capitol riot on January 6 has revealed former President Donald Trump's dismissive response, "So what?" upon learning that Vice President Mike Pence was taken to a secure location during the attack. Trump's aides described his indifference to the violence and his focus on the election results rather than the safety of his vice president or the Capitol. Despite attempts to get Trump to intervene, he remained uninterested and later criticized Pence on Twitter for not overturning the election results. The January 6 House Select Committee has attributed the riot to Trump's influence.
