MLB and Wichita Police Recover Stolen Jackie Robinson Statue
A cherished Jackie Robinson memorial statue was stolen and destroyed in Kansas, prompting nearly $180,000 in donations and support from Major League Baseball to replace it. The bronze statue, weighing hundreds of pounds, was found burned beyond repair, with damages estimated at close to $75,000. An online fundraiser has raised over $177,000 from more than 3,300 donors, and MLB and the 30 clubs have pledged to replace the statue. The police are still looking for the thieves and have asked the community for information.
