"Jack McCaffery Convicted for Fatal Accident Due to Failure to Yield"
Jonathan "Jack" McCaffery, the 17-year-old son of Iowa men's basketball coach, has been found guilty of failure to yield to a pedestrian in a fatal accident that occurred on May 22. McCaffery, a junior at Iowa City West High School, struck and injured Corey J. Hite, who later died from his injuries. The judge ruled that McCaffery's line of sight was obstructed by a mail truck, but he failed to slow down or stop before hitting Hite in the crosswalk. McCaffery faces a potential $1,000 fine, a 180-day suspension of his driver's license, or both. Sentencing is scheduled for October 13.
