Contaminated IV Bags Suspected in Deaths of 13 Mexican Children
Mexican health authorities are investigating the deaths of 13 children linked to contaminated IV feeding bags at four hospitals, with the bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca identified as the cause. The bacteria is resistant to multiple antibiotics, and 15 of the 20 cases have been confirmed. The company producing the IV bags, Productos Hospitalarios S.A. de C.V., has had its contract suspended. An Epidemiological Alert has been issued, and the use of the company's IV nutrition bags has been halted as investigations continue.
