10-year prison sentence for drug dealer in Michael K. Williams overdose case
Irvin Cartagena, the dealer who sold fentanyl-laced heroin to actor Michael K. Williams, resulting in his accidental overdose death, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Cartagena pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute the drugs and apologized for his actions in court. Despite facing a potential sentence of five to 40 years, the judge gave him a less severe punishment due to his drug addiction and character witnesses describing him as humble and hard-working when sober. Williams, known for his role in "The Wire," died at the age of 54 in September 2021 after purchasing the drugs from Cartagena.
