Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the rights to the Irish rap group biopic "Kneecap" prior to its Sundance premiere, with Michael Fassbender playing the role of their charismatic father turned political martyr. The film follows the Belfast trio's rise as figureheads of a civil rights movement to save the Irish language, and is reportedly the first Irish-language movie to play at Sundance. Directed by Rich Peppiatt, the movie was bankrolled by various organizations and produced by Trevor Birney and Jack Tarling.
