Microsoft employees discovered a new custom emoji feature in early internal versions of Microsoft Teams after animated emoji of Pepe the Frog started appearing, alongside other custom emoji not currently available. While Pepe the Frog has a troubled past and was co-opted by white supremacists, it is now widely used innocently and as a reaction meme in platforms like Twitch. Microsoft Teams currently only supports official Unicode emoji, but the addition of custom emoji is in early testing and may be rolled out to all users at some point this year.
