Starting Saturday, NBA referees will begin using headsets during games to improve communication, initially during stoppages and eventually throughout the game, following a phased rollout tested since 2022.
The NFL has adopted a rule change proposed by the Detroit Lions for the 2024 season, altering the challenge system for instant replay. Under the new rule, a coach only needs one successful challenge to earn a third challenge opportunity, regardless of any subsequent unsuccessful challenges. The proposal "barely" passed, with just three rule changes adopted at the 2024 NFL owners meetings so far, including the Lions' proposal and the official prohibition of the "hip drop" tackle.

The league also voted to establish one preseason roster reduction date at the end of the preseason, expand instant replay to allow for review on failed fourth-down attempts, and make the penalty for tripping a personal foul. Notable rule proposals that didn't pass included allowing teams to designate a third quarterback on game days and giving teams a chance to convert fourth-and-20 from their own 20-yard line as an equivalent to an onside kick attempt.
