Survey Reveals America's Least Neighborly Cities: Los Angeles and Miami Top the List.

Los Angeles and Riverside have some of the lowest rates of volunteerism among the nation's largest cities, according to a new study from AmeriCorps and the U.S. Census Bureau. The study ranked 12 metro areas based on formal volunteering and informal helping, with Riverside ranking dead last in formal volunteering and Los Angeles third from the bottom. Despite the low marks, Angelenos still give back to their community in large numbers and dollars, with over 1.5 million formal volunteers contributing 66.4 million hours of service through organizations worth an estimated $2.4 billion in 2021.

Miami ranked as least neighborly city in US survey.

Miami has been ranked as the least neighborly city in America, according to a study by AmeriCorps using U.S. Census Bureau data. The study evaluated the 12 biggest metropolitan cities in the U.S. based on informal and formal volunteering, with Miami coming in last for "informal helping." Only 35.5% of Miami residents were willing to help their fellow residents outside of an organizational context. The study found that Baby Boomers were the generation most likely to help their neighbors, and veterans helped their neighbors at a rate of 59%, eight percentage points higher than non-veterans.
