"IOC Bars Russian and Belarusian Athletes from Paris Olympics Opening Ceremonies"
The International Olympic Committee has barred athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics, allowing them to compete as Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs) in individual events. Athletes associated with military and national security agencies will not be eligible to compete. The sanctions against the Russian and Belarusian states and governments remain in place for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. AINs may still participate in the closing ceremonies, and if they win gold, the AIN flag and anthem will be used for celebrations.
