The USA box office for Indian films is currently slow, with anticipation for upcoming Sankranthi films to boost revenue. Shah Rukh Khan's "Dunki" has crossed $8 million, while Prabhas' "Salaar" is close to reaching $9 million and "Animal" nears $15 million. Kalyan Ram's "Devil" has crossed $200k, but no Telugu film generated revenue over the past weekend.
"Animal" continues to dominate the North American box office, while "Hi Nanna" emerges as a successful new release. However, "Extra" fails to gain traction. "Hi Nanna" grosses $1.1 million, while "Extra" struggles to reach $100k. "Animal" accumulates $2 million over the weekend and has a chance of surpassing the total earnings of "RRR."
Indian film "Leo: Bloody Sweet" directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj dominates the specialty box office, debuting at no. 8 domestically with a weekend gross of $2.14 million and a total domestic cume of $4.68 million. The film, released in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu, received strong numbers in various cities across the United States. Other Indian films, "Bhagavanth Kesari" and "Tiger Nageswara Ra," also made their debuts, while Fathom Events' re-release of "Back to the Future" and the Met Opera event "Dead Man Walking" performed well. Additionally, several indie films, including "The Persian Version," "Anatomy Of A Fall," and "Dicks: The Musical," saw solid numbers at the box office.
Indian films "Jailer" and "Gadar 2" made successful debuts at the box office, with "Jailer" grossing around $2.56 million and "Gadar 2" earning $1.135 million. These films, along with other Bollywood, Tollywood, and Kollywood releases, have been attracting audiences both in India and abroad. Specialty releases such as "Jules" and "Between Two Worlds" also performed well, while the horror film "Talk To Me" continued to generate revenue.
The mayor of Kathmandu has banned all Indian films in the city until the dialogue "Janaki is daughter of India" is removed from the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush, which is a retelling of Ramayana. The ban was announced after the morning shows of the film were canceled over security reasons. The dialogue was eventually removed and passed by the Nepal Censor Board, but the mayor still believes that showing the film as it is will damage Nepal's nationality, cultural unity, and national identity. The film has collected Rs. 240 crores at the box office globally.
