Kansas Basketball Avoids Major Penalties in NCAA Infractions Case
The Kansas Jayhawks' men's basketball program and coach Bill Self will not face additional serious punishment from the FBI's 2017 investigation into college basketball, as ruled by the Independent Resolution Panel. The Jayhawks have been placed on a three-year probation and will have to vacate their 2018 Final Four appearance and wins due to a player's participation. The program, however, will not receive a postseason ban, and Self and an assistant coach will face no further suspension. The panel found violations at various levels for the school, coach, and assistant coach, but the major infractions were deemed unfounded. Kansas had previously self-imposed sanctions, and the ruling confirms that the coaches were not involved in or aware of payments to student-athletes.
