"Effectiveness of DC and Baltimore's Youth Curfews: A Comparative Analysis"
Starting September 1, the District of Columbia will ramp up enforcement of the youth curfew in seven neighborhoods where crime has increased. The curfew requires individuals 16 and younger to be off the streets from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekends. Instead of taking curfew violators to a police station, they will be taken to the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) to connect them with support services. There are exemptions to the curfew, including accompanying a parent or guardian, completing an errand, or exercising First Amendment rights.
