Mariners continue to stifle Padres' offense in back-to-back wins.
The San Diego Padres lost 4-1 to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, continuing their trend of inconsistent and impossibly stuck performances. The Padres have scored one or zero runs in 16 games, second-most in the major leagues, and have lost each of their past four games following a win in which they scored at least five runs. The Mariners, who have a similar disappointing start to the season, got strong pitching and scored enough to beat the Padres, who were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Padres starter Joe Musgrove defended the offense, saying that Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert out-pitched them.
