Two women of Nigerian origin were arrested in Rome for performing an at-home circumcision on a 20-day-old infant, which led to the baby's death due to possible hemorrhage. The women face charges of aggravated manslaughter and illegal exercise of a profession, while the child's mother is under investigation for conspiracy to commit manslaughter. Similar incidents have occurred in Italy, largely among the Muslim immigrant community, where circumcision is not a common practice and many doctors refuse to perform the procedure on boys under the age of 4.
