"NYPD Officer Fatally Shot During Traffic Stop in Far Rockaway, Queens"
An on-duty NYPD officer was fatally shot while conducting a vehicle stop in Far Rockaway, Queens. The officer and his partner had stopped a vehicle with two men inside for illegal parking, and when they asked the individuals to step out, the passenger refused, pointed a gun at the officers, and fired, hitting one officer in the torso. The officer, identified as "Jonathan," later died at the hospital. The suspect was also shot by the officer's partner and his condition is unknown. Mayor Eric Adams called the incident a "recidivist" problem, as one of the suspects had been arrested on a gun charge in April 2023.
