LeBron James' Manager Maverick Carter Admits to Illegal NBA Betting
Maverick Carter, the manager for LeBron James, admitted to federal agents in 2021 that he had placed bets on NBA games through an illegal bookmaker. Carter denied placing bets on the Lakers or for others. He stated that he placed approximately 20 bets on football and basketball games, ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 each. The NBA prohibits betting on league games for players, team officials, and league officials, but business managers are not included in the rule. Carter was not charged and cooperated with the investigation into Wayne Nix, a former minor league baseball player who pleaded guilty to operating an illegal sports gambling business.
