Diddy Confirms $5K Daily Payment to Sting for Song Sample.

Diddy has clarified that he was joking about paying Sting $5,000 a day for sampling The Police on the 1997 Biggie tribute "I'll Be Missing You." Although Sting confirmed in a 2018 interview that he was paid for the sample, Diddy explained that they are good friends and that Sting probably makes more than $5,000 a day from one of the biggest songs in history. "I'll Be Missing You" spent 11 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 and won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards.

Diddy Pays Sting $5k Daily for 'Every Breath You Take' Sample.

Diddy revealed on Twitter that he pays Sting $5,000 per day for sampling the Police frontman's hit song "Every Breath You Take" on his own song "I'll Be Missing You." The resurfaced video clip from a 2018 interview shows Sting confirming that Diddy asked for permission to sample the hit after his own song was released. Sting notes that there are no hard feelings and that the two are "very good friends now." The comprehensive worldwide agreement between Sting and Universal Music Publishing includes most of Sting's song catalog, including "Every Breath You Take."
