Researchers at the University of Southern Denmark have developed drones that can recharge directly from power lines using a gripper system and inductive charger. The drones, initially designed for inspecting power lines, demonstrated the ability to sustain operation throughout multiple inspection and charging cycles in a real outdoor environment. While this innovation could extend drone flight time and be particularly useful in remote areas, concerns about potential damage to power lines remain, prompting consideration of alternative charging methods such as charging pads.
