Virginia Braces for Glacier-Grade Snow and Ice as Bitter Cold Looms
A large winter storm will blanket Virginia with snow, sleet and freezing rain—creating a thick, glacial layer of precipitation—before an Arctic air mass drives temperatures into the teens and 20s. Most of the state is expected to see wintry precipitation, with 5–10 inches of snow north of Wytheville to Richmond and widespread ice accumulation, raising travel risks and the potential for power outages. Gov. Spanberger declared a state of emergency to mobilize resources as conditions worsen and a prolonged cold snap follows for days throughout the region.
