"Frosty Forecasts and Fluctuating Temperatures Greet Texas as New Year Approaches"
Houston is on track to mark 2023 as only the third year in recorded history without a freezing temperature, a rarity that previously occurred in 1956 and 1931. Despite close calls, the lowest temperature recorded this year was 33°, with a current streak of 368 days above freezing as of Friday morning. The city's official weather recording station has been at Bush Intercontinental Airport since 1969, and while a chill is expected before New Year's Eve, meteorologist Anthony Yanez forecasts that temperatures will not dip to freezing levels.
