Horse Deaths Raise Safety Concerns Ahead of Kentucky Derby.
Four horses have died at Churchill Downs, including a colt scheduled to run in the Kentucky Derby, raising concerns about horse safety in the sport. Two horses trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. died suddenly for unknown reasons, while Wild on Ice was euthanized after sustaining a leg injury while training and Take Charge Briana was put down after an injury during a turf race. The deaths come after a series of reforms aimed at improving horse safety in the wake of 30 horse deaths at Santa Anita in 2019.
