Forte, last year's Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old, has been disqualified from his victory in the 2022 Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga after testing positive for meloxicam. Trainer Todd Pletcher has been fined $1,000 and suspended for 10 days, pending a hearing. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve pain and inflammation. Forte's status for the Preakness remains in doubt.

Forte, Former Derby Favorite, Fails Drug Test and Ineligible for Preakness Stakes.

Forte, the Kentucky Derby favorite who was scratched due to a bruised hoof, failed a drug test after winning the Hopeful Stakes in September 2022. The substance for which he tested positive has not been disclosed. The matter has yet to be adjudicated before New York regulators due to repeated procedural delays sought by the trainer's counsel. Forte's trainer, Todd Pletcher, is scheduled to appear before New York racing officials on Wednesday to discuss the failed drug test.
