Sony Expects Record Holiday Sales as PS5 Supply Chain Issues Finally Resolved
Sony has announced that the supply chain issues that plagued the PlayStation 5 (PS5) for the past three years have finally ended, and the company expects a record-breaking holiday season for PS5 sales. The global chip shortage and scalpers had made it difficult to purchase the console, but the situation has improved, with scalpers struggling to sell PS5 units at inflated prices. Sony anticipates that this will be the first holiday season where PS5 consoles will be in full supply, and they are expecting strong sales, aided by the launch of new titles like Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Additionally, Sony is on track to ship 25 million PS5 units in 2023, surpassing the record held by the original PlayStation. The upcoming release of the PS5 Slim, which offers a smaller size and the same power and price, is also expected to contribute to the strong sales.
