The WWE Heritage Cup Championship has been effectively discontinued after D’Angelo stole and threw the trophy into a river, marking the end of a championship that was introduced in NXT UK in 2020 and featured a unique British Rounds Match format.
The No Quarter Catch Crew utilized a new WWE championship rule change for the first time on NXT, allowing any member of the faction to defend the Heritage Cup title, not just the winner Charlie Dempsey. Drew Gulak defended the Cup on behalf of the Crew, leading them to retain the title in a match filled with distractions and interference.
WWE NXT's Global Heritage Invitational round robin tournament is underway, with eight competitors divided into two groups. After two episodes, Butch, Joe Coffey, and Nathan Frazer are leading their respective groups. The group winners will face off for a shot at the Heritage Cup. Tyler Bate is the only competitor yet to have a tournament match.

The Seattle Sounders will host the San Jose Earthquakes in the first match of the Heritage Cup in 2023. San Jose is an improved side this season and boasts an MVP-candidate player in Cristian Espinoza. Seattle needs to continue on the foundation they built in their last match against the New York Red Bulls. San Jose has been known as one of the most chaotic sides in MLS, but with new manager Luchi Gonzalez, things have calmed down a bit. The Sounders are coming off a decent 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls over the weekend.
