Deadly Attacks Ravage Nigerian Villages, Leaving Dozens Dead
Gunmen attacked a rural village in northern-central Nigeria, killing at least 46 people. The motive for the attack is unclear, but clashes between nomadic herders and settled farmers competing for land and resources are common in the area. The attack occurred in Benue state, which has been one of the states hardest hit by such clashes. The security situation in Nigeria is further complicated by a 14-year-long jihadist conflict in the north-west and attacks by separatists in the south-east.
