Socialite avoids jail time for fatal shooting of Belize police chief.
Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin has been fined $37,000 and ordered to complete 300 hours of community service after pleading guilty to manslaughter by negligence for fatally shooting Belize police chief Henry Jemmott in May 2021. Hartin claimed the shooting was a freak accident while reloading Jemmott's gun. She must also record a video teaching the public about the dangers of "drinking and making foolish decisions." Jemmott's family is pursuing a wrongful death claim against Hartin in civil court.
