NYC Mayor Bans Height and Weight Discrimination
New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed a bill into law banning discrimination based on height and weight in employment, housing, and public accommodations. The law has an exemption for when a person's weight or height would prevent them from performing a job's essential requirements. The law is set to take effect on November 22. Six other cities and the state of Michigan also have similar bans on height and weight discrimination. Supporters of the new law say body discrimination can sometimes deny people life-saving medical treatment and cause mental health challenges.
