Former Police Chief Sentenced to 11 Years for Involvement in Jan. 6 Capitol Riot
Alan Hostetter, a former California police chief, has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison for his role in the Capitol siege on Jan. 6, 2021. Hostetter, who brought a hatchet to the Capitol, was found guilty of multiple felony charges, including conspiracy. He drove from California to Washington, D.C., with weapons and tactical gear, and joined a group that breached the Capitol. During his sentencing hearing, Hostetter spewed conspiracy theories and baseless claims about the election and the events of Jan. 6. The judge handed down one of the longest sentences related to the Capitol siege, emphasizing that the First Amendment does not protect obstructing or carrying weapons into restricted areas. Hostetter plans to appeal his conviction.
