'Jagged Alliance 3' Review: A Nostalgic Blast from the Past

Jagged Alliance 3, developed by Haemimont Games, is a throwback to the heyday of ultra-granular PC strategy games, favoring squad and inventory management with action point-based combat. The game features a clunky internet interface reminiscent of the early 2000s and offers a roster of unique mercenaries with distinct abilities and personalities. The skirmishes are intense and exciting, with customizable firearms and destructible environments. However, the game lacks important information, such as hit percentages, which can discourage experimentation and lead to a more conservative playstyle. The game's mechanics can be cumbersome, particularly when managing multiple squads. Overall, Jagged Alliance 3 lays a strong foundation for the franchise's resurgence but falls short of achieving a cohesive and satisfying experience.

"Jagged Alliance 3: A Surprisingly Smooth Experience"

Jagged Alliance 3, developed by Haemimont Games, is a solid return to form and an excellent upgrade for the franchise. Set in the fictional country of Grand Chien, players must rescue the kidnapped President, subdue a ruthless military leader, and bring peace back to the region. The game features well-designed and gorgeous maps, choice-driven gameplay with various consequences, and a charming and intense soundtrack. Gameplay involves hiring mercenaries, planning strategic moves on a map, and engaging in turn-based tactical RPG combat. The game offers a variety of mercenaries with unique abilities and personalities, but also presents challenging and unforgiving gameplay. Overall, Jagged Alliance 3 is a proficient and beautiful strategy game that offers a thrilling and varied experience.

Jagged Alliance 3: A Chaotic Homage to 90s Action Movies.

Jagged Alliance 3, the upcoming turn-based strategy game from Haemimont Games and THQ Nordic, has left players feeling frustrated and annoyed due to its decision to pare back crucial information such as chance-to-hit and other modern conveniences. The game looks the part of a modern strategy game, but the rest feels like it's been lifted straight out of the late 90s where we last left Jagged Alliance 2 - and not necessarily to its benefit. The lack of anything vaguely useful to inform any of the decisions in planning attacks makes it difficult to play.
