Tragedy Strikes as School Gym Roof Collapses in China, Claiming 11 Lives
Eleven people, including young female volleyball players, were killed when the concrete roof of a school gymnasium collapsed in Qiqihar, China. Authorities suspect that the illegal stacking of materials on the roof caused the cave-in. The gymnasium was being used for training when the incident occurred. Construction workers had placed perlite, a water-absorbing mineral, on the roof during the construction of a nearby building, which became heavy due to rainwater and led to the collapse. An investigation is underway, and individuals responsible for the construction have been taken into custody.
