A Chinese national has been arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm after allegedly attacking diners with an axe at several Chinese restaurants in Auckland, New Zealand. The attack did not appear to be racially motivated and was being treated as an isolated incident. Three people remain in hospital in stable conditions. The man was carrying a number of other weapons, including a "hammer-like thing".
A Jamaican man, Jermaine Scott, has been sentenced to three years in prison by a UK court for knowingly infecting a woman with HIV. Scott was diagnosed with HIV in 2005 and had been prescribed medication to minimise the risk of transmission to others. He failed to inform the victim of his diagnosis and went on to have unprotected sex with her. The victim subsequently tested positive for HIV, and the pair ended their relationship. Scott was deported from the UK to Jamaica in 2011 but was extradited back to the UK in 2022 to be charged in connection with the incident.
